Music Therapy Program
The Kids-N-Hope Foundation provides financial support for the Music Therapy Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Music therapy is the prescribed use of music by a qualified person to effect positive changes in the psychological, physical, cognitive, or social functioning of individuals with health or educational problems.
Music therapists assess emotional well-being, physical health, social functioning, communication abilities, and cognitive skills through musical responses; design music sessions for individuals and groups based on client needs using music improvisation, receptive music listening, song writing, lyric discussion, music and imagery, music performance, and learning through music; participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning, ongoing evaluation, and follow up.
The Kids-N-Hope Foundation has used the funds that have been raised to purchase music equipment and provide the hospital with a full-time Music Therapist. The Foundation also funds additional musical therapists that are specially trained in working with developmentally-disabled children. The Music Therapy program allows the children to express themselves and interact and support other children in the hospital.
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is the nation’s first hospital exclusively for children. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is one of the leading pediatric hospitals and research facilities in the world. The institution’s innovation and service to patients and families reflects a continuous commitment to outstanding patient care and innovative research.
They have been recognized from many different organizations for their outstanding service. In a comprehensive data-based survey, Child Magazine has ranked the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia the best pediatric hospital in the United States for the fourth consecutive time. Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia was awarded Magnet Status for Nursing Excellence by the American Nursing Credentialing Center. Children’s Hospital is the first pediatric hospital in Pennsylvania to receive the Magnet designation.
In 1996, American Heritage Credit Union became the first credit union in the country to form its own charitable organization when it began the Kids-N-Hope Foundation. After American Heritage President and CEO Bruce Foulke visited the Children’s Seashore House of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, he was inspired to help the program and was instrumental in the Credit Union’s efforts to establish the Kids-N-Hope Foundation to support the hospital’s needs.
The first ray of hope that the Kids-N-Hope Foundation bestowed upon the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia was a Music Therapy Program. Our dream is to provide the heart’s desire of a child with a chronic illness and to meet the emotional and physical needs of these special children.
American Heritage Credit Union employees are dedicated to supporting the Kids-N-Hope Foundation because they want to make a difference in these children’s lives. Throughout the year, employees contribute in various ways by volunteering at fundraising events, selling raffle tickets to Philadelphia sporting events and participating in the American Heritage Casual Monday Program, in which employees can ‘purchase’ the privilege of dressing down.
The Kids-N-Hope Foundation has brought our community of staff, volunteers, members, and business partners together to raise not only the funds needed to support these children in need, but to raise the community’s awareness of the need itself.
Various events and promotions help raise funds to support the needs of these extraordinary children. Click here to learn about events hosted by the Kids-N-Hope Foundation.
